There are diminutive parties and there are big parties, and there are parties that are very great. Washington’s newest of a monument addition, the Newseum, gave itself an initiatory party the other darkness that was huge – so many (one enumerate had it at 1800) that they had to rest on the feet in line. Men in inky tie, women in twilight dresses, acquirement checked off the visitor list.

By sum of causes and effects, this is a cynical host, and so there was some tut-tutting and streak jumping at the entrance. But once inside, an bigoted mood prevailed. What they found were seven floors of coterie, a delicious menu of Wolfgang Pug’s greatest hits -- everything from pizza to young sheep chops to move fry; bars in every aim with a choice of wines, martinis and all kinds of top ledge brands; in addition a band to measured movement to, and room after sweep of captivating exhibitions and other over-the-top attractions.
